ILOILO - The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force headed by PO3 Charlie Asturias has filed criminal charges against ten individuals who were using improvised dynamites to catch fish off the coast of Concepcion and Carles.
Two separate criminal complaints in violation of Paragraph 1 and 3 of Section 88 (Fishing through Explosives, Noxious or Poisonous Substance, and/or Electricity) of Republic Act 8550 have been filed against the fishermen in the Municipal Trial Circuit Court of San Dionisio on Sept 4 and 7.
The first group of suspected illegal fishers was apprehended by the patrol team led by PO3 Philip Canoso on September 3 in the vicinity of Antonia Island in Carles. They were Ronald Villacampa, Ranulfo Espolong and Johnatan Centino who were residents of Barangay Lantangan, Carles.
The six others who were arrested on September 5 about 8.6-kilometer away from Bagongon Island in Concepcion were from Barangay Tiglawigan, Cadiz City. They were Allan Quijano, Alfredo Hinojales, Meliton Fernandez, Danilo Batchancel, Reggie Lim, Rey Teodoso and Arnel Moradas.
The task force recovered from their possession two boxes of assorted fishers, air compressor, fish finders and two plastics bottles of suspected improvised dynamites.
The erring fishermen were currently locked at the detention cell of Municipal Police Station of Concepcion and Carles while they wait for the resolution of their respective cases.
