Iloilo Is Elephantiasis-Free

Iloilo was among the 16 provinces in the Philippines that the DOH recognized as Lymphatic Filariasis Free during the awarding ceremonies for Gawad Kalusugan held in SMX Convention Center in Pasay City last February 20.
The other provinces were composed of Cagayan de Oro, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Davao del Norte, Masbate, Misamis Occidental, Negros Oriental, Northern Leyte, Northern Samar, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, South Cotabato, Surigao del Sur and Western Samar.

Development of Remote Hospitals in Iloilo Begins

ILOILO – As they continue to solidify their friendship with Philippines, the government of South Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, is now starting the expansion and development of three remote hospitals here. “This may not be a huge project in terms of money but it is a noble project and I am proud that Korea is part of it,” said Korean Ambassador Lee Hyuk, who led the groundbreaking ceremonies of Iloilo Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Area Health System Strengthening Project held in Aleosan District Hospital on Monday.

Iloilo Extends Help in the Maintenance of District Jail

The governor’s support came following the objection of the Department of Justice in the previous memorandum of agreement where BJMP-6 was supposed to shoulder all the expenses.
The Iloilo District Jail, previously known as Iloilo Provincial Integrated Jail, was slowly turned over to BJMP-6 in 2012. During the transmission period, BJMP-6 took the management of the jail, including the maintenance and operating expenses.

Iloilo saves, buys more heavy equipment

Among this brand new equipment are the ten dump trucks, three motor graders, one unit of fuel tractor, truck tractor with trailer, bulldozer, backhoe loader, wheel loader, vibratory compactor and hydraulic breaker. 
Records from the Provincial Engineer’s Office showed that from P108-million budget to purchase additional heavy-duty vehicles in 2010, a total ofP35.5-million was saved and were used again to buy more. 

Hulbot-hulbot fishers fall

ILOILO – The provincial government here is urging the national government agencies running after illegal fishers to be aggressive and relentless in their campaign too. This developed after the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat single-handedly apprehended the third Danish seine operator that resurfaced in Carles on Monday. Onboard fishing vessel JenJun-1, the task force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad caught eight fishermen using the outlawed super hulbot-hulbot in the marine waters of Gigantes Norte.

EMB Grants ECC for WB’s P262 Road Project in Iloilo

The project which is funded by the World Bank under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of the Department of Agriculture will cover the 28-kilometer Imbang Grande-Tagubong-Gemumua Agahon-Agtabo farm-to-market road – the longest in the Visayas. 
PRDP is a six-year World Bank funded program (2013-2018) designed to establish an inclusive, market-oriented and climate resilient agriculture and fisheries sector through strategic investments in priority commodity value chains.

Guv vows to resolve IPs demands

ILOILO – In support to impending implementation of Jalaur River Multipurpose Project – Phase II, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. committed to address the social projects that the indigenous people of Calinog were demanding from the government. The governor initiated a dialogue with the IPs on Tuesday as part of the ongoing negotiation to gain the IPs to free, prior and informed consent, an important requirement for the construction of the multi-billion mega dam. “Without doubt, we will find a way to make the projects you wish for come true. For as long as it is reasonable and direly needed, we will make it possible. But if it is not, I have to say ‘sorry’ and make it clear to you as early as now,” Defensor told the IPs from 16 barangays affected JRMP II.

P264M Farm-to-Market Road up for Bidding

The bidding process will finally commence after the provincial government received the letter of no objection from World Bank. The 28-kilometer Imbang Grande-Tagubong-Gemumua Agahon-
Agtabo farm-to-market road in Passi City will be paved using a P264-million budget.
The road development is one of Department of Agriculture’s priority projects under the Philippine Rural Development Project this 2015.

Bantay Dagat catches 29 trawl fishers

A total of 29 fishermen using active gears were caught off Malangabang Island in Concepcion, according to report of SPO1 Gilbert Piedad on Thursday.
Spearheaded by Pilot Arvin Valderrama and PO1 Ruel Fernandez, the operation led to the arrest and seizure of the following:
  • M/BCA JUP-JUP – owned and operated by Joel Bermejo;
  • M/BCA JON D. ROYCE – owned and operated by Merlyn Carrem;
  • M/BCA PRINCE BLUE – owned and operated by Ramy Patente;
