ILOILO – As they continue to solidify their friendship with Philippines, the government of South Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency, is now starting the expansion and development of three remote hospitals here. “This may not be a huge project in terms of money but it is a noble project and I am proud that Korea is part of it,” said Korean Ambassador Lee Hyuk, who led the groundbreaking ceremonies of Iloilo Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Area Health System Strengthening Project held in Aleosan District Hospital on Monday.
ILOILO – The provincial government here is urging the national government agencies running after illegal fishers to be aggressive and relentless in their campaign too. This developed after the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat single-handedly apprehended the third Danish seine operator that resurfaced in Carles on Monday. Onboard fishing vessel JenJun-1, the task force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad caught eight fishermen using the outlawed super hulbot-hulbot in the marine waters of Gigantes Norte.
ILOILO – In support to impending implementation of Jalaur River Multipurpose Project – Phase II, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. committed to address the social projects that the indigenous people of Calinog were demanding from the government. The governor initiated a dialogue with the IPs on Tuesday as part of the ongoing negotiation to gain the IPs to free, prior and informed consent, an important requirement for the construction of the multi-billion mega dam. “Without doubt, we will find a way to make the projects you wish for come true. For as long as it is reasonable and direly needed, we will make it possible. But if it is not, I have to say ‘sorry’ and make it clear to you as early as now,” Defensor told the IPs from 16 barangays affected JRMP II.
