11 Provincial Government Scholars Get Top Honors

Seven graduates will receive cum laude honors while four graduates will receive magna cum laude honors.
The Iloilo provincial government will give cash incentives to 18 “Iskolar sang Iloilo” graduates in appreciation of their achievements. Magna cum laude graduates will be given P5,000 each while cum laude graduates will receive P3,000 each. Graduates without honors, on the other hand, will receive P1,000 each.

PENRO to Establish 65 Hectares of Beach, Mangrove Forests

The beach forest will be located in Brgys. Guibongan, Mambatad, Bacauan, Palaca, Tabunacan, Damilisan, Oyungan, Lanutan, Maringyan, San Rafael and Narat-an, Miagao.
The mangrove forests, on the other hand, will be in Brgy. San Fernando, Barotac Viejo (eight hectares), Brgy. Nanding Lopez, Dumangas (20 hectares) and Brgys. Bucana Bunglas and Pantalan Nabaye, Ajuy (27 hectares).

World Bank to Help Concrete 24 Road Sections in Iloilo

The establishment of reliable and safe road in these areas will cost around Php1.88 billion or P13-million per kilometer, according to the estimate of the Provincial Engineer’s Office.
The project is expected to be implemented this year under World Bank’s Support for Strategic Local Development and Investment Project for Philippines (SSLDIP).
SSCDIP provides any local government unit the access to viable financing that will help them implement strategic infrastructure investments.

More illegal fishers caught in Iloilo

In coordination with the Philippine National Police, the task force intercepted six trawl fishers in Barangay Bay-ang, Ajuy and four in Uaydahon Island, Carles on Wednesday.
The fishermen, who were onboard five motorboats, were local residents of Barotac Viejo and Carles in Iloilo.
Earlier this week, the task force arrested 15 trawl fishermen from Manapla, Negros Occidental.
SPO1 Gilbert Piedad explained that the arrested fishermen were all trawling within the area declared as marine protected.

Iloilo Opens Door for Further Development

ILOILO – The 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army and Police Regional Office jointly declared the Province of Iloilo as “Peaceful and Ready for Further Development” in a ceremony held in Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City, today. Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Gregorio Catapang, represented by Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. John Bonafos, and Police Regional Director Josephus Angan affirmed the declaration during the first quarter meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council where Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. acts as chairman and presiding officer.

Defensor Shines in Social Governance Anew

Governor Defensor receives award for Outstanding Governor in Social Welfare and Development
The Gawad Parangal Committee of the Association of Local Social Welfare and Development Officers of the Philippines Inc. adjudged Defensor as Outstanding Governor in 2014 and again this 2015.
The committee will award the citation to the governor during the 19th National Convention and General Assembly of ALSWDOPI on April 8, 2015 in SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

USAID Director in Iloilo for EdGE Project

Hugpong sa Pagbangon is a project undertaken by Synergeia Foundation under the Education Governance Effectiveness (EdGE) of USAID – a five-year project (2013-2018) that seeks to improve education governance through decentralization.
It will specifically provide post-disaster education recovery assistance to public elementary schools in 19 select local government units (LGUs) in the Visayas that were severely affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. 

Birthing clinic in Carles up for expansion

ILOILO –The Philippine Red Cross-Iloilo Chapter, with the support of Korean Red Cross, will help in the upgrading and expansion of a birthing clinic located in Carles town here. Based on the letter of Chapter Administrator Gilbert Paul Valderrama, PRC-Iloilo will construct an annex building to the existing birthing clinic to increase its bed capacity. The annex building, which has a floor area of 385 square meters, is expected to accomodate additional eight birthing patients. 

UNICEF Grants P1.6M Water Analyzer to Iloilo

Now in General Services Office for inspection, the equipment has portable incubator and multi-parameter test kit that has the capacity to detect Escherichia coli and total coliform in water samples. 
Prior to its delivery, the Provincial Health Office is using the water quality analyzers from World Health Organization to test the safety of water in deep wells and water systems in 5th District.
