Capitol Mission Reaches 1,277 Indigents

ILOILO – The three-day medical, surgical and dental mission of the provincial government helped 1, 277 poor Ilonggos in far-flung areas in Pototan and Carles on May. The mission dubbed as Project Buligay sa Barangay was brought by Vice Governor Raul Tupas and Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. in Pototan Astrodome on May 27 and in Abong Elementary School and Gigantes Island, Carles on May 28 and 31.

ILOILO – Fifty-one small business entrepreneurs here have been provided with the skills and knowledge to improve the aesthetic value and salability of their native products in the market. Packaging and labeling assistance was part of the Packaging Technology Assistance Program (PTAP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), according to Development Management Officer VI Velma Jane Lao of the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

ILOILO – After 21 days of recuperating, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. returned to his post on June 11, a day before the most historic event in the city and province of Iloilo this year – hosting of 117th Philippine Independence Day and Vin d’Honneur. Wearing his write polo, grey slacks and black leather shoes, the chief executive and his wife, Cosette, arrived in Iloilo Provincial Capitol past 1:00 pm to welcome President Benigno Aquino III.

ILOILO – The provincial government here will now implement the construction of the 28-kilometer farm-to-market road which will pave the way for the development of Passi City. This developed after Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. issued the notice for the contractor to proceed to the clearing and construction of the longest farm-to-market road in Western Visayas on Monday.

Fishermen Fined For Offenses

ILOILO – The municipal government of Concepcion collected a total of P90,000 fines from 36 fishermen who dared to operate without permits earlier this week. PO3 Charlie Asturias of the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force reported on Tuesday that the fishermen were caught using squid trawl and cast net.
