The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has approved the reclassification of Sicogon Island from agricultural to commercial use, a move that will pave way for its full development into a tourist destination because of its white-sand beach and pristine waters. DAR Secretary Virgilio de los Reyes, in an order dated 29 February 2016 docketed as DARCO No. CON-1608-053, reclassified 334.6 hectares of agricultural land in Sicogon but required the developer to provide disturbance compensation for farmers and fisherfolk in the island.

The Sea Ambulance Operations Team (SAOT) of the Iloilo provincial government underwent a six-day training on first aid, basic life support and water search and rescue recently. The training held at Iyang Beach Resort in Concepcion, Iloilo was facilitated by the Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter and the Provincial Agriculture Office.
