The Iloilo provincial government awarded the top real property and business taxpayers for the year 2016 in a simple ceremony held at the Capitol lobby on Monday, April 10, 2017. Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. along with other provincial officials distributed the plaques and certificates to the awardees.
Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. and Board Member Demetrio Sonza unveil the marker for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) obtained by Iloilo province last year. SGLG is given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to local government units with exemplary performance in different areas of governance. Iloilo province has obtained the SGLG for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016).

At 105 years old, Maria Jusa Guyos still plays mahjong, a game she has been playing to keep her mind active and relaxed, and which may also be her secret to a long life. Born on 11 August 1911, Guyos outlived her husband Vicente, who died in 1973, and two of her seven children.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. vowed full support to the Enhanced National Greening Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be implemented in the Jalaur River Basin which covers the municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao and Janiuay.
