Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. released a total of P25.4 million for various school projects in the province on Tuesday, November 15, 2016. The fund that went to 60 schools and 26 municipalities came from the Provincial School Board (PSB) chaired by the governor himself.
The projects include: Repair of school buildings – P7,390,938.20; Construction of school buildings – P1,525,000; Construction of school facilities such as stage, perimeter fence, water & drainage systems, etc. – P3,799,777.80; and Procurement of school equipment – P180,000. Recipient schools received an amount depending on the project proposals they submitted to Gov. Defensor.
Aside from school projects, the PSB also allotted P3,750,000 or P750,000 to each of the host municipalities of the Congressional District Sports Association (CDSA) meets. It also provided financial assistance amounting to P8,825,000 to the Department of Education for the training and participation in the Palarong Pambansa 2015 in the province of Albay.
School principals of the recipient schools received their checks from Gov. Defensor in the presence of the mayors. Defensor through the PSB releases funds for school projects annually in a bid to help improve the quality of education in the province. It also helps address the lack of teachers by deploying PSB-funded teachers to public schools particularly in remote areas
