ILOILO – The provincial government here will be accepting more scholars for the upcoming school year 2015-2016 to help poor yet deserving students earn a degree in college. Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. has ordered that the number of scholars be increased from seven to ten per district making it 50 in total.

This development has the concurrence of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the Project Management Board of the Iskolar Sang Iloilo Program (ISIP).

According to the governor, the additional scholars shall focus on the field of agriculture, fisheries and tourism since these are the areas in the province that are lacking in workforce. Also, the Provincial Management Board of ISIP is looking into the possibility of having scholars for Grade 11 and 12 in the next two years. This is because of the fact that there will be no incoming first year collage students due to K to 12 Program and the scholarship will resume to regular freshmen after two years.

Last year, the province awarded full scholarship grants to 35 qualified students who pursued a degree in education, arts and sciences, engineering, accountancy, nursing and information and technology.

In order to maintain the scholarship, the scholars of the province must have no failing grades and dropped subjects. They also must maintain a weighted average grade of 2.5 in all of their subjects.ISIP offers P2,000 monthly stipend for housing, food and fare and P1,000 yearly for clothing allowance. The scholars can also get P1,000 allowance per semester for the books and other related projects.

Book allowance is released every June and November upon submission of registration form. The clothing allowance, on the other hand, is released every June.
