Capitol Kicks Off Recycling Initiative

Gov. Arthur Defensor, Jr. led the launching of the Iloilo provincial government's 4B's campaign (Basura, Baylo, Baligya, Bangko) or the recycling of wastes from the different Iloilo provincial government offices. Under the program, solid wastes, such as, papers, plastics, cartons, metal scrap, tin cans, aluminum cans, pet bottles, and sacks will be collected every week then sold to Justine's Junk Shop. In collaboration with the Iloilo Provincial Employees and Community Multi-purpose Cooperative (IPECMPC) each office will be given a passbook where the amount from the sale of recyclables will be deposited and could be withdrawn by them later.

The program is spearheaded by the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO). Gov.  Defensor said the initiative aims to encourage provincial government employees to recycle solid wastes as there is money in it.
He said while his administration advocates solid waste management, the Iloilo provincial government should serve as an example to other public or private offices. "Let us start with our home, the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, and eventually we can expand this program provincewide," he said.

Earlier, Gov. Defensor also launched the "Balik Alat" program which discourages the use of plastic bags in the public markets.
