Twelve hospitals run by the Iloilo provincial government could already hire additional personnel to further improve their services. This after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Supplemental Budget No. 2-A requested by Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. amounting to P262 million last Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Of the total amount, P66 million was allotted for the hiring of 590 personnel, such as nurses, doctors, X-ray technicians, etc., to address the personnel gap of the 12 hospitals.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, concurrent head of the Hospital Management Office, said the move is also in compliance with the licensing requirement of the Department of Health for Level I hospitals.
It was learned that nine of the 12 provincial government-run hospitals would upgrade their bed capacities this year. Also included in the supplemental budget is the P50 million for medicines.
Banias said the budget allocation would ensure the availability of medicines and other medical supplies in the pharmacy of the hospitals. It would also mean full compliance with the No Balance Billing policy of the PhiHealth.
Meanwhile, P18.6 million was allotted for the improvement of the province’ sports development program as well as sports facilities and infrastructures broken down into the following: P2.6 million for grassroots sports development program and P16 million for improvement of sports facilities.
Last week, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan also approved Supplemental Budget No. 2 amounting to P45,102,993 for the midyear bonus of qualified provincial government employees.
