Residents of barangays Loong and Barangay Nipa in Concepcion, Iloilo will soon heave a sigh of relief as the provincial road passing through their barangay will soon be concretized.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr., Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) president and chief executive officer Roel Castro, Concepcion Mayor Milliard Villanueva and other local officials led the groundbreaking ceremony for the concreting of the provincial road from poblacion Concepcion to Sitio Puntales, Brgy. Nipa on Friday, January 15, 2016.
The 4.2 kilometer provincial road leads to the site of the coal-fired power plant of PCPC which is under construction.
PCPC will fund the concreting of the two-lane road while Governor Defensor assured to take care of the concerns of the residents that will be affected by the project.
The project is expected to be completed by July 15, 2016.
Defensor expressed heartfelt gratitude to PCPC for shouldering the expenses for the concreting of the said provincial road.
He recalled that when he first met with Mr. Walter Brown, owner of PCPC, he asked for his help to improve the provincial road going to their power plant since the province could not afford its concreting.
Castro stressed that the project has been one of the most anticipated developments for the residents living along the provincial road. Once finished, the concrete road will shorten the travel time of residents in the two barangays and the workers in the power plant complex.
PCPC tapped the services of NEPC Power Construction Corp. and ESPN Power Corp. to undertake the construction of the road project worth P91 million.
Defensor underscored the developments and benefits brought by the entry of PCPC in Concepcion. He said PCPC will make the town of Concepcion a premier economic magnet in northern Iloilo.
Castro, on the other hand, asserted that the concreting project will serve as a bridge to progress and a monument of a lasting partnership between PCPC and the town of Concepcion and the province of Iloilo. (ECGarcia/ Capitol News)
