Four more provincial roads in Iloilo totaling 30.966 kilometers are up for rehabilitation under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) program of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. disclosed during the Provincial Development Council (PDC) meeting on Tuesday (May 30, 2017) that the DILG already endorsed to the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) the release of P413,885,031.05 for the implementation of the projects.
CMGP was formerly known as the Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan at Daan Tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran (Kalsada) program in which the Province of Iloilo was also a recipient. The provincial roads to be rehabilitated under CMGP and their corresponding project cost are the following: 1) Mina-Talibong-Yugot-Nabitasan-Naslo Road covering the towns of Mina and Pototan (8.812 kms) – P121,815,217.20; 2) Cabugao-Banban-Toyungan road in Calinog (13.7 kms) – P165,871,562.00; 3) Batad-Embarkadero road in Batad (2.518 kms) – P43,624,512.85; and 4) Carles Poblacion-Bancal/Abong-Tarong road in Carles (5.936 kms) – P82,573,739.00.
Engr. Isagani Baldevieso of the Provincial Engineers Office (PEO) said the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) of the province is now preparing the documents for the bidding of the projects.
Gov. Defensor noted that under the former Kalsada program, DILG released P162 million for the rehabilitation of 15.3-kilometer provincial road linking Anilao, Dingle and San Enrique towns, which is already nearing completion. He also gladly announced that the bidding process for another road project under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), which is spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture and World Bank, has commenced.
Defensor referred to the rehabilitation of the 9.9-kilometer Tinucuan-Purog-Maribuyong , Dueñas farm to market road with a project cost of P101,596,718.38. To note, there are three on-going PRDP road rehabilitation projects in the province, namely, Imbang Grande-Tagubong-Gemomua-Agahon-Agtabo, Passi farm to market road with a length of 28 kms. amounting to P257,800,001; Pob. Tacuyong Norte, Leon farm to market road with a length of 10.29 kms amounting to P114 million; and Parara-Jamog, Tigbauan farm to market road with a length of 7.89 kms amounting to P76,283,727.77.
Defensor said two more road projects are still waiting for inclusion in PRDP. These are San Antonio-Lambuyao-Abilay, Oton farm to market road (4.460 kms) and Bongol-Tambal-Quipot, Janiuay farm to market road (12.918 kms).
The governor cited the significant help of DILG and other agencies in the rehabilitation of provincial roads. He said with over 600 kilometers of provincial roads, the provincial government alone could not afford to have it all rehabilitated. “We express our heartfelt gratitude to the different agencies that are helping us in our quest to improve our provincial roads,” Defensor said. He noted that the road rehabilitation projects would greatly help the people especially in the hinterlands as it would make their travel convenient and would improve the transport of goods and agricultural products to the town centers.
