Travelling from Concepcion town proper to Brgy. Nipa, where the 135-megawatt coal-fired power plant of Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC) is located, is now convenient and comfortable.
This as the concreting of the 5.437-kilometer road undertaken by the PCPC was already completed.
The said road was inaugurated and turned-over to the provincial government on Friday, April 7, 2017 in a simple ceremony held at the PCPC complex. Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr., Fifth District Rep. Raul Tupas, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and the local officials of Concepcion led by Vice Mayor Rainier Balida and PCPC officials graced the occasion.
The project which had its groundbreaking ceremony on January 15 last year was completed ahead of schedule. Gov. Defensor thanked PCPC for the fast completion of the project. “The residents living along this road will no longer suffer from dust during summer and mud during the rainy days,” Defensor said.
The 5.437-km provincial road traverses from the Poblacion, Brgy. Lo-ong and Brgy. Nipa. PCPC president Roel Z. Castro noted that the project is part of their company’s Social Development Program. It is meant to help PCPC’s host communities in their everyday travel and make it easier for them to access the Poblacion area (town proper). PCPC spent P122 million for the project while the provincial government helped in the compensation of properties affected by the project.
Defensor expressed heartfelt gratitude to PCPC for shouldering the expenses for the concreting of the said road as the provincial government could not afford to do it. Castro stressed that the project has been one of the most anticipated developments for the residents living along the provincial road. The concrete road will shorten the travel time of residents in the two barangays and the workers in the power plant complex.
PCPC tapped the services of NEPC Power Construction Corp. and ESPN Power Corp. to undertake the construction of the road project. Defensor underscored the developments and benefits brought by the entry of PCPC in Concepcion. He said PCPC will make the town of Concepcion a premier economic magnet in northern Iloilo. Castro, on the other hand, asserted that the concreting project will serve as a bridge to progress and a monument of a lasting partnership between PCPC and the town of Concepcion and the province of Iloilo.
