Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. and Third District Rep. Arthur Defensor, Jr. graced the inauguration and blessing of various projects in the municipality of Mina on Friday, June 16, 2017.
The projects that were inaugurated were the Barangay Tumay covered court (P1.3 million), Food Terminal (P1.5 million) at Mina Public Market, Barangay Abat concrete road (P2.9 million) and Barangay Bangac concrete road (P1.9 million). Said projects were funded by Rep. Defensor under the Lower House Infrastructure Project.
Two projects, on the other hand, were inaugurated at Mina National High School (MNHS), namely, Home Economics building (P3 million) and Flag raising area (P2 million). Gov. Defensor provided funds for the said projects.
After the blessing and inauguration of the projects, a program was held at the MNHS covered gym attended by the municipal and barangay officials, students and guests.
Mayor Rey Grabato thanked Gov. Defensor and Congressman Defensor, who both hailed from Mina, for the many projects they have poured in their town.
Gov. Defensor, at the age of 26, was the first mayor of Mina which was established as a separate municipality from Pototan in 1970.
“Because of the continuous support of Gov. Defensor and Cong. Defensor, our municipality has achieved new heights… millions of projects had been poured to our town and we are very grateful for it,” said Grabato.
In an emotional speech, Gov. Defensor said that in his more than four decades of political career he has already gone to many places but he will always come back to where he started, his hometown of Mina. He reassured his “kasimanwa” that he will help them as long as he can.
Meanwhile, MNHS principal Gil Abellera also thanked Gov. Defensor and Cong. Defensor for helping their school. “MNHS could not have reached this level if not for Gov. Defensor and Cong. Defensor, and also Mayor Grabato… from the bottom of our hearts, the MNHS community is very thankful to you,” Abellera said. MNHS is one of the outstanding schools in the division of Iloilo with a student population of 2,500.
