ILOILO – Water Missions International, a nonprofit Christian engineering organization, has provided this province with water filtration and purification systems benefiting over 50,000 people in ten municipalities. Vice President of Operations Seth Womble said the water purification systems were installed to provide clean and safe water to survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan in Bingawan, Batad, Ajuy, Concepcion, San Dionisio, Lemery, Estancia, Balasan and Carles.
ILOILO – One thousand sacks of certified rice seeds will be distributed to farmers here before the first planting season this year. The release will continue after Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. approved the purchase of P1.36-million certified rice seeds from Western Visayas Integrated Agricultural Research Center in Brgy. Hamungaya, Jaro, Iloilo City. The governor also agreed to purchase 20 sacks of registered rice seeds worth 34,000 which will be used as community seed bank, a method used to provide seed security and conserve agro-biodiversity.
ILOILO – Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. is encouraging all who have been enrolled in Philippine Health Insurance Corp., especially the sponsored poor, to maximize the use of their health insurance benefits. This developed following reports that only 5.61 percent of 378,312 enrollees under the National Household Targeting System and Local Government Unit Sponsored Program availed their insurance.

ILOILO – A group of businessmen from Bangladesh are set to visit the city and province of Iloilo on January 19 to explore possible ties and business ventures, according to Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines John Gomes. “We have a business delegation coming, very high-powered business delegation. ILOILO – Passi City, the province’s sole component city, has been chosen by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to be in the fore front of saving in lives in times of conflict and disaster in Panay Island.
