ILOILO – The owners and boat captains of two fishing boats that were apprehended for illegal fishing in Ajuy town will be facing multiple criminal charges before the office of the provincial prosecutor here.

The complaint for violation of Sections 86 (unauthorized fishing) and 97 (ban on muro-ami, other methods and gears destructive to coral reefs and other marine habitat) of Republic Act 10654 has been filed against Boat Captain Rogelio Reyes of FB Rosal on February 1.

ILOILO – Philippine Saemaul Undong, a movement inspired by the success of South Korea, celebrated its fourth foundation anniversary on Tuesday through sharing of best practices from two villages in Oton and Lemery.

Punong Barangay Antonio Masculino Jr. of Abilay Sur, Oton shared how their church and community infrastructures like irrigation canals, pathways and vegetable gardens were completed using “dagyaw” system.

An effective way to boost morale and ownership, dagyaw system means that able residents agree to provide their labor for free to construct a project.

Capitol offers plant now pay later plan for cacao, coffee farmers

ILOILO – Thousands of coffee and cacao planters here may opt to venture into plant now pay later plan to sustain their livelihood and increase their household income.

Crops Division Chief Winnie Grabato of the Provincial Agriculture’s Office explained that the plan, which is payable for three years, has two options for farmer partners.

The first option offers discounted rate of payment for planting materials should they pay in cash. The discount varies depending on the survival rate of cacao or coffee.
