Alarm Raised Over Effect of Quarrying on Infras

The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) and Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) expressed concern over the ill effects of excessive quarrying on rivers to existing infrastructures. National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) 6 regional director Ro Ann Bacal, chair of RPMC, called for an inter-agency meeting to tackle the matter at the Governor’s boardroom on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

Iloilo invests 16.4M in rainwater harvesting facilities

ILOILO – To avoid wastage of rainwater during rainy days, the provincial government will embark on a massive construction of rainwater harvesting facilities in water constraint villages here this year.

The P16.4-million project involves the construction of 25 rainwater harvesting systems in special areas and 42 ferrocement tanks in public schools, according to a report from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).

The Governor was assisted by OIC Provincial Administrator Dennis Ventilacion and PENRO officer-in-charge Atty. Arturo Cangrejo. Each municipality received the amount of P100,000. The recipients LGUS were: Guimbal, Igbaras, Miag-ao , San Joaquin, Tigbauan, Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, San Miguel, Calinog, Janiuay, Maasin, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Dingle, Balasan, Btc. Viejo, Batad, Carles, San Rafael, Estancia, Lemery and San Dionisio.

Defensor Vows Support to Expanded National Greening Program

Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. vowed full support to the Enhanced National Greening Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be implemented in the Jalaur River Basin which covers the municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao and Janiuay.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. and his wife Cossette joined the nearly 600 volunteers composed of government employees and members of civic organizations in planting 5,000 mangrove propagules in Brgy. San Carlos, Anilao, Iloilo in celebration of the Earth Day on April 22, 2017. Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque spearheaded the preparations for the activity.

26 Iloilo Towns to Close Open Dumpsite

ILOILO – Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. commits to provide financial assistance to municipalities that are having a hard time complying with Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

Defensor announced on Thursday that P100,000 aid will be granted within the first quarter of 2017 to each of the 26 municipalities to help them safely close and rehabilitate their open dumpsites.

Students from Miag-ao National High School work on their Christmas lantern made of trash during the "Basura Mo I-Parol Mo" lantern making contest organized by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) as part of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Month celebration at the provincial capitol lobby on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. The finished lanterns will be displayed at the Capitol for the entire Yuletide season.
