Governors Arthur Defensor Sr. of Iloilo and Alfredo Marañon of Negros Occidental want the Visayan Sea declared a marine reserve to further protect and preserve it. The two governors met on June 1, 2016 with Director Remia Aparri of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to discuss possible moves leading to the declaration.

ILOILO – The people of the provinces surrounding the Visayan Sea triangle are seeking for the declaration of Visayan Sea as a National Marine Reserve of the Philippines during the 7th Visayan Sea Summit held recently (June 5) at the School of the Sea in Barangay Ocoy, Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island, Cebu.
ILOILO – For the second time, the Ulian Watershed in Lambunao town won the coveted Governor’s Prize on Blue Waters, an award for the most sustainable and well-managed watershed. The Ulian Watershed proved that it has the most effective council in terms of using the ridge to reef and ecosystem-based approach in implementing the integrated water resource management. The members of the Ulian Watershed Management Council received the award during a ceremony held in the Conference Hall of Provincial Capitol on Wednesday.
