About 6,000 seedlings of indigenous trees such as kamagong, narra and jackfruit were planted by more than 2,000 volunteers in barangays Bongol and Balanac in Janiuay town last Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017. The three planting activity is in celebration of the 18th Pyesta sa Kakahuyan which is a brainchild of Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. vowed full support to the Enhanced National Greening Project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be implemented in the Jalaur River Basin which covers the municipalities of Calinog, Lambunao and Janiuay.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. and his wife Cossette joined the nearly 600 volunteers composed of government employees and members of civic organizations in planting 5,000 mangrove propagules in Brgy. San Carlos, Anilao, Iloilo in celebration of the Earth Day on April 22, 2017. Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque spearheaded the preparations for the activity.
ILOILO – As part of his campaign to protect the environment, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. is embarking on stream bank reforestation to prevent bank erosion and siltation of rivers in the province. The project is part of his Rainwater Harvesting and Watershed Board Strengthening Program under the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office.
