Iloilo Wins 2017 Apolinario Mabini Award for LGU

The Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PFRD), Inc. has conferred on Iloilo Province the 2017 Apolinario Mabini Award for the Local Government.

Lourdes Dela Llana Pimentel, chairperson of the 2017 Apolinario Mabini Awards, in a letter sent to Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr., said the province has “qualified with the standards of a Local Government Unit that has rendered exceptional services to the mass of citizens with disabilities within its jurisdiction in the last two years.”

Leganes is Most PWD-friendly Municipality

The Iloilo Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) awarded the Municipality of Leganes as this year's Most PWD-friendly Municipality during the culminating activity for the 39th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week at Casa Real de Iloilo on Tuesday, August 31, 2017. Latter Day Saints Charities Foundation interviews Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. relative to the foundation's wheelchairs distribution program in partnership with of the province of Iloilo. Gov. Defensor thanked the Latter Day Saints Charities Foundation for making the province its partner in the program which provided 600 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in the different municipalities of the province.

Third Batch of Wheelchairs Distribution

Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. (center) with some recipients of the wheelchairs donated by the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) Charities Foundation on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the Capitol lobby. Sixty two recipients availed of the customized wheelchairs during the third batch of distribution. It was learned that LDS has committed 600 wheelchairs for the persons with disabilities in the province of Iloilo through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office. Mr. Kenneth Lee (Gov. Defensor's left) represented the LDS Charities Foundation in the activity.

Janine Bermejo, a polio survivor who now works at the Iloilo Provincial Planning and Development Office, receives a prosthetic arm yesterday from the LN-4 Foundation, a non-government organization that provides "a light, durable, functional prosthetic hand to every person who wants one and can benefit from it, and do so at no charge."

Iloilo sponsors 10 PWD scholars

ILOILO – True to its mission to help the poor and marginalized, ten persons with disabilities (PWDs) were provided with scholarship here by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office. The scholars were the pioneer batch of the provincial government’s special scholarship program for PWDs as mandated by 2013 Persons with Disability Ordinance authored by Provincial Board Member June Mondejar.
