BFAR’s Ship to Guard the Visayan Sea

ILOILO – The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has committed to deploy one of its monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) ships to intensify the enforcement of laws protecting the Visayan Sea.

BFAR Western Visayas Regional Director Remia Aparri made the commitment during the recently-concluded 7th Governor’s Summit on the Alliance of Provinces for the Protection of Visayan Sea hosted by Iloilo Governor Arthur D. Defensor Sr.

Deadly Dynamite Fishing Resurfaces in Iloilo

ILOILO – A 35-year-old fisherman could not imagine his self locked away from his family after he was caught using an improvised dynamite off the coast of Colebra Island in Concepcion.

Benjie F. Lacson of Barangay Alipata, Carles left his wife and two children home when he was arrested by Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force on May 28.

Seized from his possession were six kilos of dynamited assorted fishes which were positively examined by Antonio Lobredo of Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College-Concepcion Campus.

Iloilo Bantay Dagat Gets New Patrol Boats, Sea Ambulances

The new patrol boats of the Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force (PBDTF), including the two sea ambulances with rubber boats which was donated by the Italian shipping firm D’Amico Shipping Company through the Italian Embassy.
The province of Iloilo’s relentless campaign against illegal fishing activities especially in northern Iloilo got a boost with the addition of four more patrol boats for the Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force (PBDTF) recently.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. funded the construction of the two new patrol boats while Italian firm D’Amico Shipping Company through the Italian Embassy, donated the other two patrol boats which will also serve as sea ambulances.

Illegal fishing vessels nabbed

The two "super hulbot" fishing vessels, F/B Star Princes and F/B Grand Princes, from Bantayan Island, Cebu that were apprehended by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat operatives at the vicinity of Antonia Island, Carles on Oct. 5, 2015. The 34 crew of the said fishing vessels were charged with illegal fishing cases in court on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.

Dynamit fishing suspects charged

ILOILO — Three fishermen from Barangay Buenavista in the coastal town of Carles were charged of dynamite fishing by Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force led by PO3 Philip Gañoso.Docketed as criminal case number 3979, the complaint for violation of Paragraph 1 and 4 of Section 88 of Republic Act 8500 otherwise known as The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 has been filed against them before the 3rd Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Balasan.

ILOILO - Twelve of groups of illegal fishers have been arrested by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force off the coast of Concepcion here this week. Reports from PO3 Charlie Asturias said that these fishermen were caught using fine mesh nets and active gears within the municipal waters of Concepcion, a direct violation of Sections 86 and 90 of Republic Act 8550, respectively.

ILOILO - Twenty-two fishermen from Concepcion and Estancia were made to pay P52,000 in fines for violating the town’s ordinance on June.

These fishermen were caught engaging in shrimp trawl and ring net fishing without permit, according to a report from Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force. They were on-board the motorboats Jickhomae 2 and 3, Karen, Art Jester, Nicol, Angel Gospel, Angelo, Jet-Jet, Junross 4 and 2, Jiuaih and fishing vessel Meber.

The owners offered and paid a compromise fine of P2,500 each for shrimp trawl and P25,000 for ring net fishing.
