Fishermen Fined For Offenses

ILOILO – The municipal government of Concepcion collected a total of P90,000 fines from 36 fishermen who dared to operate without permits earlier this week. PO3 Charlie Asturias of the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force reported on Tuesday that the fishermen were caught using squid trawl and cast net.

ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad has begun patrolling 24/7 to protect the marine reserve of this province from poachers and illegal fishers. Piedad said they have to intensify their presence at sea given the resurgence of illegal fishing and in anticipation of the possible increase in their operation during the lean season.

More illegal fishers caught in Iloilo

In coordination with the Philippine National Police, the task force intercepted six trawl fishers in Barangay Bay-ang, Ajuy and four in Uaydahon Island, Carles on Wednesday.
 
The fishermen, who were onboard five motorboats, were local residents of Barotac Viejo and Carles in Iloilo.
 
Earlier this week, the task force arrested 15 trawl fishermen from Manapla, Negros Occidental.
 
SPO1 Gilbert Piedad explained that the arrested fishermen were all trawling within the area declared as marine protected.

Hulbot-hulbot fishers fall

ILOILO – The provincial government here is urging the national government agencies running after illegal fishers to be aggressive and relentless in their campaign too. This developed after the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat single-handedly apprehended the third Danish seine operator that resurfaced in Carles on Monday. Onboard fishing vessel JenJun-1, the task force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad caught eight fishermen using the outlawed super hulbot-hulbot in the marine waters of Gigantes Norte.

Bantay Dagat catches 29 trawl fishers

A total of 29 fishermen using active gears were caught off Malangabang Island in Concepcion, according to report of SPO1 Gilbert Piedad on Thursday.
 
Spearheaded by Pilot Arvin Valderrama and PO1 Ruel Fernandez, the operation led to the arrest and seizure of the following:
 
  • M/BCA JUP-JUP – owned and operated by Joel Bermejo;
  • M/BCA JON D. ROYCE – owned and operated by Merlyn Carrem;
  • M/BCA PRINCE BLUE – owned and operated by Ramy Patente;
