Pototan hosts BSPO Congress 2017

The BSPOs hold hands together as they sing “If we hold on together” which was led by Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. during the 2017 BSPO Congress held at Pototan Astrodome, Pototan, Iloilo on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

More than 2,000 Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPO) from the 42 municipalities and one component city of Iloilo province filled the Pototan Astrodome in Pototan, Iloilo on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 for their annual BSPO Congress. Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. and Third District Congressman Arthur Defensor, Jr. graced the event which gathered the BSPOs for a day of recognition and fun-filled activities.

The program also featured an orientation on the national government’s Ambisyon 2040 development program which was presented by a representative from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

Gov. Defensor reiterated his commitment to the welfare all the barangay volunteers in the province as he expressed full appreciation to their “sense of volunteerism”. He thanked the BSPOs for their valuable help in the different programs of his administration despite lack of remuneration.

“Your voluntary services cannot be compensated with money. But I am sure that with all the good deeds and volunteer work that you have done to your fellowmen, it is God Almighty who knows how to repay you,” Defensor told the BSPOs.

Cong. Defensor, on the other hand, recognized the important role of the barangay volunteer workers, which include the BSPOs, in bringing government services to the grassroots level. He said, he passed House Bill 6655 or the Barangay Workers Act to give utmost importance to these frontline workers.  

Meanwhile, Gov. Defensor announced that the province’s more than 14,000 barangay volunteer workers, namely, BSPOs, Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and Day Care Workers will start receiving their P4,000 cash gift by the second week of December.

The governor allots funds for the volunteer workers’ cash gift annually in recognition of their active involvement in the implementation of various programs of his administration.

The BSPO Congress was organized by the Provincial Population Office (PPO) headed by Ramon Yee.

Pototan Mayor Tomas Peñaflorida was also present to welcome the guests to his municipality.
