On Thursday (December 21, 2017), Barangay Captain Agustin Nepuncio with the Day Care personnel and children went to the office of Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. to present to him the trophies they had won. Gov. Defensor congratulated the group for consistently winning the award.
Gawad Kalasag is the country’s premier annual awards for outstanding contribution in the fields of disaster risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance.
Day Care worker Emelyn Gatanila attributed their award to the best practices that they have been teaching their pre-schoolers. She said they involve their pre-schoolers in the conduct of earthquake drill, taught them to obey traffic rules and regulations through “alisto trapiko” and taught them about solid waste management through the “basura drill”.
Gatanila also thanked the municipal officials of Guimbal, their barangay officials, and the parents for their support in all their activities. She also cited Vice Governor Christine Garin who started supporting them when she was still the mayor of their town. Gatanila said they were also inspired by the performance and dedication of their barangay officials.
Brgy. Sipitan-Badiang, which is situated on the path of the Tangyan River that comes from Igbaras and Tubungan, is a consistent winner in both the regional and national level of Gawad Kalasag.
Nepuncio also thanked Gov. Defensor for his support to their barangay. He said Gov. Defensor has supported many projects in their barangay including the procurement of various search and rescue equipment and facilities.
