The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Iloilo unanimously approved during its regular session on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, Supplemental Budget (SB) No. 1 in the amount of P682,629,547.76.
The supplemental budget requested by Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. would pave the way for the implementation of the second tranche of the compensation adjustment of provincial government employees covering July to December 2017. It also covers the increase in salary rate of job hire employees from P376 to P430 per day.
Contract of service employees such as doctors, nurses, medical technologists and radio technologists would also get a raise to the level of permanent employees. Also included in the supplemental budget is the additional cash incentive of P30,000 to each centenarian in the province. About P150 million was also allotted for the procurement of medicines and medical supplies as well as for other projects in the 11 district hospitals and the Iloilo Provincial Hospital.
SB No. 1 also includes the P200 million budget for the initial stages of the redevelopment of the provincial capitol complex as envisioned by Gov. Defensor. The project intends to convert the area fronting the provincial capitol and the soon-to-be inaugurated regional museum into a beautifully landscaped leisure park. It also entails construction of a multi-level parking building beside the Philippine Red Cross building.
In passing SB No. 1, the SP committee on appropriations, chaired by Board Member Nielo Tupas, noted that the Objects of Expenditures listed in the budget request was “necessary for efficient and effective delivery of basic services in the province of Iloilo.”
SB No. 1 is broken down as follows:
General Fund – P578,532,971.56;
20% IRA Development Fund – P74,500,000;
Local Economic Enterprise – P29,596,575.76
