ILOILO – Three groups of fishermen from Victorias City, Negros Occidental were arrested for illegal fishing here over the weekend. Led by P03 Charlie Asturias, the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force intercepted the fishermen 2.6-kilometers from Anhawan Island in Ajuy.

ILOILO – Though it’s been over a year since Super Typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc here, the help from Italian government keeps on coming. Among which is their upcoming assistance to marginalized farmers affected by the monster storm.
ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad has begun patrolling 24/7 to protect the marine reserve of this province from poachers and illegal fishers. Piedad said they have to intensify their presence at sea given the resurgence of illegal fishing and in anticipation of the possible increase in their operation during the lean season.
ILOILO – The provincial government here is urging the national government agencies running after illegal fishers to be aggressive and relentless in their campaign too. This developed after the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat single-handedly apprehended the third Danish seine operator that resurfaced in Carles on Monday. Onboard fishing vessel JenJun-1, the task force led by SPO1 Gilbert Piedad caught eight fishermen using the outlawed super hulbot-hulbot in the marine waters of Gigantes Norte.

ILOILO – Forty-eight fishermen onboard 14 motorboats were apprehended for illegal fishing off Tagubanhan Island in Barangay Bagongon, Concepcion on Monday night. The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force reported that the said fishermen were using active gears in catching shrimp and squid, an act prohibited under Municipal Ordinance No. 01 in 2008. The ordinance banning the use of active gears in municipal waters was passed in support to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ Fisheries Administrative Order 201.
