THE BEE TEAM. Students from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand came to Iloilo to introduce an initiative to cultivate native bee hives for organic honey which will be implemented in Barangay Tarong in Carles, one of the hard-hit villages by Typhoon Yolanda. The team won the UC 21 Day International Challenge which gave competing groups 21 days to develop a practical and unique solution to help improve the socio-economic well-being of the people of Tarong. ILOILO – Fifty-one small business entrepreneurs here have been provided with the skills and knowledge to improve the aesthetic value and salability of their native products in the market. Packaging and labeling assistance was part of the Packaging Technology Assistance Program (PTAP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), according to Development Management Officer VI Velma Jane Lao of the Provincial Planning and Development Office.
