Defensor, who initiated the creation of the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) during his first term as governor in 1993, noted the vital role of the cooperatives in uplifting the living of conditions of its members and the community especially in rural areas.

Five cooperatives became recipients of the Provincial Livelihood Project Fund (PLPF) under the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO) with a total amount of P4.2 milion that was released by Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. on Thursday, June 1, 2017. The cooperatives are: Kooperatiba Naton MPC (Tigbauan) - P1 million; Pinili Development Cooperative (New Lucena) - P1 million; Metro Dumangas MPC (Dumangas) - P1 million; Lambunao Government Employees MPC (Lambunao) - P1 million; and Miag-ao Farmers & Vendors Consumers Coop (Miag-ao) - P200,000.

ILOILO – The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, through ActionAid and Balay Mindanaw, will give additional support to the continuing effort of empowering poor farmers to attain food and income security.
