Historians, researchers and history teachers are invited to the lecture "Finding Our Heroes: A Free Demonstration on the Filipino Guerilla Files" on May 18, 2017, 2 pm, at the Casa Real de Iloilo in Iloilo City. Marie Vallejo, head of the team that digitized the Philippine Guerilla Files from the US National Archives, will the main resource person. Open to everyone for free, the activity aims to spread awareness on the untold stories of guerrillas who fought during World War II which could be a source of inspiration because of their heroism.

Second District Board Member Demy Sonza, in cooperation with the provincial government’s Office of Culture, Arts, History and Tourism, launched on Tuesday (April 18, 2017) his new book entitled “Two Most Highly Decorated Filipino Soldiers in World War II – Jose C. Calugas and Ramon S. Subejano of Iloilo”. Governor Arthur Defensor along with other provincial officials and Sonza’s family and friends graced the launching ceremony held at Casa Real de Iloilo.

The first-ever full length Hiligaynon film titled Ginauhaw Ako, Ginagutom Ako (I am Thirsty, I am Hungry) will be shown in Iloilo City on July 1, 2016 after a surviving copy was successfully restored in France. As part of the World Premieres Film Festival Philippines 2016, the movie that was directed by Quirino “Quin” Baterna and Leonardo Q. Belen will have its premiere at the Cinematheque Iloilo on Solis Street.
The Capitol Building in Iloilo referred to as the "Casa Real" or Royal House during the Spanish times was built in 1840. The "Casa Real" was the residence of the alcalde-mayor or governor, then the highest Spanish Official in Iloilo.
