Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. personally expressed his gratitude to Amb. Massimo Roscigno, Ambassador of Italy to the Philippines, for the help of the Italian government to Iloilo province in the aftermath of supertyphoon Yolanda in November 2013.
The Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has approved a resolution recommending to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan that the entire province of Iloilo be placed under a state of calamity due to the onslaught of El Niño phenomenon. Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, upon the instruction of Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr., convened the PDRRMC for an emergency meeting yesterday (April 14, 2016) to address the adverse effects of El Niño in the province.
Iloilo province will turn 115 years old on Monday, April 11, 2016. The occasion marks the establishment of the civil government of Iloilo province in 1901 where Gen. Martin Delgado was appointed as the first provincial governor.
The Sea Ambulance Operations Team (SAOT) of the Iloilo provincial government underwent a six-day training on first aid, basic life support and water search and rescue recently. The training held at Iyang Beach Resort in Concepcion, Iloilo was facilitated by the Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter and the Provincial Agriculture Office.
Farmers in Iloilo are starting to feel the brunt of the El Niño and claims for crop insurance have started to mount at the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC). For the period January 1 to February 9, 2016, the PCIC has already approved indemnity payment for 1,710 claims in the amount of P9.2 million.
The 66 duplex housing units at Caritas Village in Brgy. Malayuan, Ajuy, Iloilo that were turned over to 132 families whose houses were destroyed during the onslaught of supertyphoon Yolanda in November 2013. One hundred thirty-two families in Ajuy, Iloilo, whose houses were destroyed by typhoon Yolanda in 2013, now live in their new homes courtesy of the Caritas Internationales and Caritas Austria through the Caritas Philippines.
ILOILO - Homeless survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) will soon get the keys to their calamity-resistant houses in Barangay Bacjauan Sur, Concepcion. Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said SM Cares, the charitable arm of retail giant SM, will turn over their 200 newly constructed houses to the typhoon survivors on August 4.
ILOILO - The absence of search and rescue (SAR) equipment in municipalities prone to natural disasters like tropical cyclones remains a problem here, according to the Iloilo Provincial Police Office. Based on their experience, Police Provincial Director Cornelio Salinas revealed that most of the municipalities in Iloilo lack the capabilities and equipment in search and rescue operations.
ILOILO – Six months before Ilonggos remember the second year of their life after Super Typhoon Yolanda, a prominent Italian family seeks to bring smiles to faces of the survivors here. Cousins Antonia and Salvatore d’Amico of Società d’Amico di Navigazione, an international marine transport company, have donated US$100,000 (Php4,517,597.67) for the building of two patrol boats cum ambulance for Iloilo.
ILOILO – D’Amico Company (Società d’Amico di Navigazione), an Italian maritime transport group, is set to donate two patrol boats equipped with medical rescue facilities to the provincial government here. According to an email from Italian Ambassador Massimo Roscigno, whose wife Agnes is an Ilongga, the company’s bigwigs will be arriving in Iloilo on June 20 to turnover US$100,000 (P4,517,597.67).
