Officials of state-owned CCC Highway Consultants of China make a courtesy call at the Governor's office on Wednesday (September 6, 2017) with Provincial Administrator Raul Banias (right) welcoming them. The group is in Iloilo to conduct a pre-feasibility study on the proposed bridge that would link Iloilo and Guimaras provinces. CCC Highway Consultants is a prestigious company that has built hundreds of major bridges and highways in China and in other parts of Asia, among which the recently completed 29.6 km. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao link project and the 36 km. Hangzhou Bay Bridge.

Guv Orders Moratorium on River Quarrying; Regulate Backhoe Use

“The unabated extraction of sand and gravel along these river systems have resulted to the damage and deterioration of the structural integrity of bridges, irrigation dams, and other public and private infrastructures as reported by the monitoring team of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) VI…” part of the order reads. The river systems referred to in the order are: Aganan, Jalaur, Sibalom, Suage and Ulian river systems.

The Iloilo provincial government has made official its intention to donate a property in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo as the future site of the regional offices of the Department of Health and PhilHealth.

Alarm Raised Over Effect of Quarrying on Infras

The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) and Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) of the Regional Development Council (RDC) expressed concern over the ill effects of excessive quarrying on rivers to existing infrastructures. National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) 6 regional director Ro Ann Bacal, chair of RPMC, called for an inter-agency meeting to tackle the matter at the Governor’s boardroom on Wednesday, August 2, 2017.
