At 105 years old, Maria Jusa Guyos still plays mahjong, a game she has been playing to keep her mind active and relaxed, and which may also be her secret to a long life. Born on 11 August 1911, Guyos outlived her husband Vicente, who died in 1973, and two of her seven children.

Iloilo bags 3 awards from DSWD-6

The Province of Iloilo and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) won three awards from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 6. The award was given during the 66th Anniversary celebration of the DSWD at the Casa Real in Iloilo City on Monday, February 20, 2017.

Save the Children (STC) program manager Vivien Grace Martin (4th from left) updates Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and other provincial government officials on the status of their post-Yolanda assistance in Northern Iloilo, particularly the towns of Estancia, Carles, Concepcion, San Dioniso and Balasan. To recall, supertyphoon Yolanda struck northern Iloilo, three years ago on Nov. 8, 2013. STC and its partner organizations were able to help thousands of Yolanda survivors through cash assistance, livelihood projects, risk reduction trainings, and rebuilding children's lives.

Latter Day Saints Charities Foundation interviews Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. relative to the foundation's wheelchairs distribution program in partnership with of the province of Iloilo. Gov. Defensor thanked the Latter Day Saints Charities Foundation for making the province its partner in the program which provided 600 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities in the different municipalities of the province.

Latter Day Saints Charities (LDSC) turned over 40 wheelchairs to fourth batch beneficiaries at the Provincial Capitol lobby on July 21, 2016. LDSC is distributing 600 wheelchairs to beneficiaries from various municipalities identified and assessed by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office. Capitol grants midwifery scholarships

ILOILO – The provincial government grants scholarship to 22 students, 11 of which are indigenous peoples (IPs), to take up a two-year course in midwifery in New Lucena Polytechnic State College.

The scholarship is tailored-fit to Iloilo’s growing demand for midwives, especially in villages located in geographically-isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) in Calinog, Barotac Viejo, Janiuay and San Joaquin.
