Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. met with officials of Vista Land Commercial Assets (VCA) earlier today for exploratory talks on the possible establishment of a Food Terminal and Farmer’s Market at Vista Mall in Oton, Iloilo.
The discussion remains in the planning stage, with both sides exploring how the proposed facility could help farmers and bolanteros from Iloilo province.
Defensor said the proposed food terminal could attract more foot traffic to the area, which may later support other developments such as a transport hub or terminal for farmers bringing fresh produce from southern, central, and even northern Iloilo.
The governor also floated the idea of piloting a weekend flea market within the area, although he stressed that any future development should remain orderly, clean, and accessible to the public.
“Gusto naton sang mala, sanag, kag limpyo,” Defensor said.
No formal agreement has been announced, but the talks signal the provincial government’s continuing efforts to explore new spaces and opportunities for farmers and bolanteros in Iloilo.
