Bright and passionate agriculture students from various universities in Iloilo showcased their knowledge and wit during the Crops Day Quiz Bee Competition organized by the Iloilo Provincial Agriculture Office on October 2, 2025, as part of this year’s Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Week Celebration.
The friendly academic showdown brought together participants from Central Philippine University (CPU), Northern Iloilo State University–Batad Campus (NISU-Batad), Northern Iloilo State University–Barotac Viejo Campus (NISU-Barotac Viejo), Iloilo Science and Technology University–Leon Campus (ISAT-U Leon), West Visayas State University–College of Agriculture and Forestry (WVSU-CAF), and West Visayas State University–Calinog Campus (WVSU-Calinog).
After several rounds of challenging questions on crop science, agricultural technology, and sustainable farming practices, Jay Em D. Tionson of NISU-Batad emerged as the champion, taking home ₱5,000.00. Rainer C. Abiado of WVSU-Calinog won second place with ₱3,000.00, while Joshua Sobrevega of WVSU-CAF secured third place with ₱2,000.00.
The competition celebrated not only academic excellence but also the growing enthusiasm of young learners for agriculture.
Organizers emphasized that the Crops Day Quiz Bee underscored the importance of knowledge-sharing, camaraderie, and inter-university collaboration in developing the next generation of agri-leaders who will advance innovation and resilience in the agriculture sector.
