A milestone birthday now comes with added support for thousands of senior citizens in Iloilo, as the provincial government began distributing cash incentives and recognition to qualified elderly residents across the province.
Through the Office of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the Provincial Government of Iloilo officially commenced the awarding of incentives to octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians under Provincial Ordinance No. 2020-216.
Under the program, 1,820 senior citizens turning 85 and 95 this year will each receive P5,000, while 45 Ilonggos aged 100 and above will receive P20,000.
The recognition program seeks to honor senior citizens for their lasting contributions to their families and communities while also providing financial assistance that can help with daily needs, medicines, and other essential expenses.
Centenarians will also receive a plaque of recognition, a congratulatory letter from Arthur Defensor Jr., and a resolution from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan recognizing their milestone.
