The Iloilo Provincial Government under the leadership of Gov. Arthur R. Defensor, Jr. through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Ms. Sarah M. Barayuga in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development VI with its Regional Director Ma. Evelyn B. Macapobre, CESO III successfully conducted the culmination activity of the “Schoology of Disaster Response—A Webinar Series on Disaster Response Agenda” last July 27, 2022 at Casa Real, Iloilo City.
The said event was attended by Board Member Rolando Distura, the chairperson of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, RDRRMC Chair Dir. Jose Roberto R. Nuńez of OCD VI, DSWD ARD for Operations Ms. Delia V. Bagolcol, and PSWDO-Iloilo Head Ms. Sarah M. Barayuga.
The LSWDOs and LDRRMOs in the Province of Iloilo received their certificate of completion for finishing the 4-day training divided into four Fridays of July.
ARD Delia Bagolcol appreciated the effort of the Iloilo Provincial Government for conceptualizing the very first Schoology of Disaster Response in the region and DSWD is keen on replicating this to other provinces. She also highlighted the importance of collaboration among partners in the provision of timely and immediate assistance to disaster victims.
In his message, Dir. Jose Roberto R. Nuńez commended the Province of Iloilo and DSWD in conducting such activity in line with the month-long celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) this July. He also assured that the Office of the Civil Defense and the RDRRMC VI will always support the Disaster Response Cluster in all its endeavors geared towards building disaster resilience in the region.
Hon. Rolando Distura on the other hand encouraged all the LGUs to be proactive in disaster risk reduction and management as we face the new normal. He shared the latest collaboration of ISAT University and Iloilo Provincial Government through the expertise of DOST in the realization of rain gauge tool which will help in the prevention and preparedness of the LGUs.
A total of 120 participants coming from the 43 LGUs in the province on Iloilo and partner agencies completed the 4 sessions of the program covering topics on RA 10121, Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Mental Health during Emergencies, Children in Emergencies and the Disaster Reporting System.
