IWAG TEEN CENTER LIGHTS UP YOUTH PATH IN POTOTAN

A vibrant space dedicated to guide the path and empower the youth of Alberto Sorongon Sr. Memorial National High School officially opened on February 26, 2025.

The IWAG (Illuminating the Way for the Adolescent Group) Teen Center 2.0 is a project of the Iloilo provincial government, through the Provincial Population Office, which is designed to address the evolving needs of teenagers and support their personal growth.

The inauguration was led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Provincial Population Officer Atty. Ruel Von Superio, Mayor Rafael Enrique Lazaro, Third District Board Member Jason Gonzales, Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque as representative of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Iloilo, Officer-in-Charge Dr. Arlyn Gallega, representatives from the Department of Education, and the municipal and barangay officials.

This IWAG Teen Center offers a wide array of programs focusing on the social, emotional, psychological, and mental development of teenagers. It provides a safe space and supportive environment for teens to engage with their fellow peers in various meaningful ways.

“Through these centers, we aim to address critical issues such as mental health, adolescent reproductive health, and life skills education, ensuring that our youth are equipped with the knowledge and resilience to navigate the challenges of their formative years,” Atty Superio said.

Governor Defensor appealed to the youth to make use of the facility as it serves as their secondary home and is intended for their total development.

The governor also committed to ensure the completion of the ASSMNHS covered gym, to the delight of the faculty, staff, and students.

“Dapat matapos ta na ini. We have already a budget and program of works for this gym,” Defensor said.

The governor shared that the provincial government is currently spending millions of fund in the construction of typhoon-resilient school buildings and facilities to provide an enabling learning environment to Ilonggo students.

The Teen Center 2.0 infrastructure project is funded through the Provincial School Board - Special Education Fund and is one of Governor Defensor’s initiatives of ensuring the holistic development of the young people.
