Exactly a year after its groundbreaking, the Nicos KaTEENLingban Teen Center 2.0 is now ready to serve the 1,781 teenagers of Nicomedes R. Tubar Sr. National High School in San Dionisio.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the inauguration ceremony and unveiling of marker of the upgraded youth-friendly facility on January 16, 2025 which would cater to the psychosocial needs and development of teenagers.
Joining him were Mayor Darwin Bajada, Iloilo Provincial Population Office chief Atty. Ruel Von Superio, Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque representing the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP-Iloilo), Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ernesto Servillon Jr., Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Marlon Destreza, Public Schools District Supervisor Nanette E. Ledesma, Principal IV Engr. Isagani Jalandoni, Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig, and the municipal officials, among others.
Former fifth district congressmen Rolex Suplico and Niel “Junjun” Tupas Jr. also graced the event.
PPO Chief Atty. Superio said this innovation is anchored on the development mantra of Governor Defensor known as MoRProGRes Iloilo or a Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo.
“This youth development initiative of the Iloilo provincial government under the leadership of Governor Defensor aims to create an enabling environment for young people for their social, ethical, physical, emotional, and cognitive competencies,” Atty. Superio said.
Governor Defensor said the facility will serve as an extension of the students’ home that offers recreational programs for youth development.
“Your Iloilo provincial government is not only interested in your education but we are also interested in the development of your social life as part of youth development,” the governor said.
The Nicos KaTEENLingban Teen Center 2.0 is the first teen center infrastructure project to be inaugurated. The Teen Center 2.0 project is an upgrade to the existing program of the province which only provides equipment to school-based teen centers.
Eleven schools were identified as pilot recipients of the project, including the biggest one which is at the Iloilo National High School. Five, including the facility in San Dionisio, were already completed while the six are still being constructed.
