DYNASLOPE PROJECT INTERVIEW 002

A team from the DOST-PHIVOLCS conducted an interview with Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on March 15 to feature the province’s best practices in the implementation of the Dynaslope Project.

The video will be presented during the Dynaslope Project national conference this July.

The province of Iloilo has been a recipient of the PHIVOLCS-Dynaslope Project since October 2011.

A community-based early warning system for landslides (EWS-L) is being implemented in the province's five areas, namely Brgy. Marirong, Leon; Brgy. Pepe, Leon; Brgy. Umingan, Alimodian; Brgy. Inabasan, Maasin; and Brgy. Boloc, Tubungan.

The Dynaslope Project provides early warning information to the community to help them make better decisions in responding to landslide events.

The EWS-L Protocol provides operational guidelines for communicating and responding to the landslide risks in the various sites covered by the project.

Furthermore, the interview also focused on the governor’s initiatives in terms of disaster risk reduction and management and how he served as a motivation to other local government units in overcoming challenges.

Defensor gave a quick tour of the Iloilo Provincial Civil Defense Office which serves as the nerve centre of the province in times of disasters and emergencies.
