Defensor, Jr. joins and supports Bike Hike Plant + 2022 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Forest Management Bureau (DENR-FMB) headed by Dir. Tirso P. Parian, Jr., together with DENR Western Visayas (DENR- Region 6) headed by Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran, Assistant Secretary Jose B. Ong of the Indigenous Peoples Affairs, Ms. Juniel S. Guath, Regional Coordinator for Visayas, Office of the President, Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, and the Municipality of Maasin, headed by Hon. Francis A. Amboy in celebrating the 159th Year of the Philippine Forestry Service and Arbor Day this June 25, 2022.
Bike Hike Plant + 2022 is a national activity enjoined by more or less 850 participants composed of bikers, hikers, health and environment enthusiasts, and organizations convened at Maasin Watershed, where the Iloilo Provincial Nursery and Arboretum was located.
Planted a total of two thousand (2,000) seedlings of various species (e.g., Narra, Kamagong, Balayong, Iloilo Tree, etc.).
Gov. Defensor, said that it is our responsibility to protect and care for the environment by simple actions, such as planting trees.
The Governor emphasizes Executive Order No. 305, also known as Tanum Iloilo sa Hunyo 2022: Tree Growing for Food Security and Public Safety in the Province of Iloilo, encouraging all convergence partners engaged in upland farming to take measures for sustainable land management by practicing proper soil and water conservation through the application of the Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT) or contour farming.
He added that besides today's activity, there is a simultaneous Province-wide Tanum Iloilo sa Hunyo 2022 conducted by the 43 Municipalities and 1 Component City in support of the celebration of Arbor Day.
