PDDRMC MEETING IN PREPARATION FOR TYPHOON MAWAR

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. called for an emergency blended meeting with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on Wednesday for a resource capability assessment in preparation for Typhoon Mawar.

Defensor, who is a bit indisposed, was represented by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.

Banias said the governor wants to position the province’s assets and logistics and ensure an immediate response during typhoons.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Dr. Jerry Bionat presented the status of evacuation centres being constructed among LGUs and schools as well as updates on the construction of purok resilient shelters and operations hub.

The provincial government is also purchasing additional rice and relief goods for distribution to typhoon victims.

Typhoon “Mawar” may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday or Saturday and would be given the local name "Betty," as reported by PAGASA Iloilo Head Engr. Butch Naragdao.

The province of Iloilo may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon and the whole day from Saturday to Monday due to the Southwesterly wind flow that may be enhanced by the typhoon.
