Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. welcomed Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood during a courtesy visit at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol today, August 10.
Governor Defensor was accompanied by Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and Provincial Tourism Officer and OIC of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion (LEDIP) Office Ms. Aulynn Yue Sin.
The two officials discussed possible areas of cooperation between Bangladesh and Iloilo, particularly in trade and business.
They talked about the similarities between the Philippines and Bangladesh and explored economic exchanges in pharmaceuticals, textiles, and shipping and transportation.
Governor Defensor said Iloilo is open to exploring more trade opportunities with Bangladesh, as these can help support local businesses and boost the provincial economy.
“We want our business sector, if they need it, to import directly from Bangladesh so that we do not need to go to the middleman. We want to expand if possible,” Defensor said.
The meeting also opened opportunities for further talks and possible partnerships between Bangladesh and the Province of Iloilo in the future.
