Residents of Miag-ao can expect more inclusive and responsive government programs as the municipal government strengthens its capacity to integrate gender and development (GAD) principles into its planning and budgeting process.
The Gender and Development (GADIloilo) Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Iloilo Provincial Government, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), conducted a two-day Training Workshop on GAD Planning and Budgeting and the use of the Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) Tool for the members of the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) Executive Committee and Technical Working Group of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Miag-ao.
The workshop equipped municipal department heads and technical personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to formulate the municipality's 2027 GAD Plan and Budget and prepare its GAD Accomplishment Report.
The training focused on strengthening participants' understanding of the GAD planning and budgeting process and the proper application of the HGDG Tool to ensure that government programs, projects and activities are gender-responsive and address the varying needs of different sectors of the community.
By enhancing the capacity of local planners and implementers, the workshop aims to help the municipality develop programs that promote equal access to government services, reduce gender gaps, and maximize the impact of public resources for women, men, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and other vulnerable groups.
Miag-ao Mayor Richard Garin thanked the provincial GAD TWG and DILG for facilitating the training and reaffirmed the municipal government's commitment to strengthening gender-responsive governance for the benefit of all Miag-ao residents.
