The provincial government of Iloilo is strengthening its containment and recovery measures to help farmers recover from the effects of African Swine Fever (ASF) as well as strengthen backyard farming.
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. called for a meeting with the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Industry, Iloilo Provincial Police Office, and the municipal mayors this morning to reiterate the enforcement of his executive orders on the containment, depopulation and recovery against ASF.
Defensor called for sustained and intensified control points along the borders of the Red (Infected) Zones and Pink (Buffer) Zones.
The governor also proposed using artificial insemination (AI) to encourage commercial farmers to repopulate.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr Darel Tabuada said they follow DA Administrative Order No. 30 Series of 2021 or the guidelines on the recovery and declaration of freedom from ASF for LGUs.
DA-6’s Zarlina Cuello said the agency could also present a concept paper to the province regarding farmers' feasibility in conducting artificial insemination.
The provincial government will also continue to help LGUs conduct seminars and training on biosecurity measures.
“We are continuing with our initiative to protect the supply of swine and pork products in the province of Iloilo,” Defensor said.
