As part of its commitment of supporting the holistic rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), the Iloilo provincial government is constructing an P8 million multi-purpose gym at the Iloilo District Jail Male Dormitory in Barangay Nanga, Pototan.
This facility is dedicated for physical wellness activities, sports events, and other recreational programs for the PDLs.
“Gusto naton nga ang Iloilo District Jail ang mangin pinakamanami nga jail sa bilog nga pungsod,” Defensor said during the groundbreaking ceremony on December 20, 2025 as a sideline of his annual gift-giving activity at the jail facility.
The governor was accompanied by Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig and the officials from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
As a token of gratitude, the BJMP officials handed over to the governor the diorama handcrafted by the PDLs.
