A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today relative to the Purok Resilience Program (PRP) of the Iloilo Provincial Government in Brgy. Nangka, Batad, Iloilo.
PRP is a novel socialized housing program of the Iloilo provincial government intended for communities vulnerable to flooding and landslide.
The project was launched in March 2024 with Brgy. Nangka, Batad as pilot site.
Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. allotted PHP 30 million for the project which will benefit 30 families from the landslide-prone area.
Gov. Defensor, Batad Mayor Elvira Alarcon and Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines Inc. (HPFPI) National President Nerissa Germanelo signed the MOU witnessed by Brgy. Nangka Punong Barangay Joemari Aguasa and Brgy. Nangka Homeowners Association (BNHOA) President Ameriza Sunga.
The MOU lays down the roles and responsibilities of the Iloilo Provincial Government, Municipal Government of Batad, Barangay Nangka, and HPFPI relative to community development and social preparation activities of the PRP.
Gov. Defensor envisions the establishment of PRP in all municipalities in order to relocate residents exposed to natural and other related hazards.
The pilot site in Barangay Nangka is located in a spacious 5,000-square meter lot acquired by the municipality of Batad. It will consist of 10 buildings with each building consisting of three-unit shelters to cater to a total of 30 beneficiaries.
The triplex shelters feature essential living spaces such as bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area. It will also feature ceramic tiles, fiber cement board for the ceiling, metal roof with insulators to reduce heat gain, and solar rooftop panels.
At present the project has an accomplishment rate of 10 – 15 per cent with the road network and drainage system being constructed.
