FINALIZATION OF THE VOTER EDUCATION INSTRUCTIONAL MODULE

The Iloilo provincial government, through the Provincial School Board, is conducting a two-day training workshop for the finalization of the Voter Education Instructional Module (VEIM) on August 23-24, 2023, at the Casa Real de Iloilo Function Room A.

The activity is done with the Department of Education through the Youth Formation Division and the University of the Philippines Visayas – Action Research Project Team.

The participants include selected secondary Araling Palipunan teachers and youth formation coordinators.

The crafting of the module is an offshoot of the Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (Bes Probins) Program of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. which targets the formulation and implementation of the VEIM in secondary schools to help promote a transformative educational system and help young people become intelligent participants of the electoral process.

The VEIM will focus on teaching the electoral processes under the 1987 Constitution, Omnibus Election Code and other election laws.

The students will also be taught the nature of the various elective positions (national, provincial, municipal and barangay officials) to help them choose the candidate to vote.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said Governor Defensor is pushing for the manual to combat the problem of misleading and unchecked information circulating on social and mainstream media which affects the voter’s decision-making.

“By investing in the proper education of voters, Governor Toto is paving the way for a brighter and more informed electorate. Let us support his advocacy of electoral and voter's education, ensuring that every voter can make decisions based on knowledge, truth, and the vision of a better future for our society. Together, we can bring about meaningful change and strengthen our democracy,” Banias said.
