The members of the Anilao National High School Baseball Team paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
They were accompanied by Mayor Nathalie Ann Debuque, School Principal Ana Liza S. Apura, the school staff, and the coaching staff.
The secondary baseball team dominated the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association (WVRAA) Meet 2023 and will represent the region at the 2023 Palarong Pambansa in Marikina this July 29 to August 5.
The team recently won at the Palarong Pambansa pre-qualifying games last June 14 to 17.
The delegation is composed of 12 athletes with Mark Kynn A. Aquilesca as a coach, Jose Marvelo C. Borromeo as an assistant coach, and Kenny Diňo as a trainer.
They thanked Governor Defensor for the cash incentives that the provincial government is giving to provincial athletes, coaches and trainers who excelled during the WVRAA.
Under Provincial Ordinance No. 2020-217 sponsored by Vice Gov. Christine Garin and co-sponsored by all the Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, they will get P5,000 for every gold medal; P3,000 for silver; and P2,000 for bronze.
Meanwhile, Governor Defensor also committed to extending P300,000 in financial assistance to the Municipality of Anilao for their Anilao Municipal Meet this coming August to September.
The activity aims to provide an alternative for young people to utilize their free time by participating in physical activities instead of engaging in social media.
