ILOILO EMBRACES DIGITAL GOVERNANCE FOR BETTER SERVICE DELIVERY

The Province of Iloilo signified its commitment towards embracing digital governance to make government services more accessible and responsive to the needs of the public.

On behalf of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., Provincial Administrator Raul Banias joined the launching of the eGovPH App and the eLGU System in the city and province of Iloilo on February 25, 2025 at the Iloilo Convention Center.

The launching was led by Department of Information and Communications Technology VI Regional Director Ralph Joseph Moncatar and was graced by DICT-Government Digital Transformation Bureau Director June Vincent Manuel Gaudan.

Municipal mayors, Capitol department heads and employees from concerned offices also joined the event.

The eGovPH App is an essential tool to streamline government transactions and processes. It serves as a one-stop platform where the public can access local and national government services.

In his speech, Banias said the province of Iloilo has already taken steps in adapting technology towards improving the delivery of its services.

The Iloilo Provincial Agri-Fishery Information System - Farmers and Fisherfolks Agri-Fishery Resource System (PAIS-FARMS) is an internet tool that provides farmers and fisherfolk wider access to the market.

Three of Iloilo’s digital innovation under Governor Defensor also won the Digital Governance Awards from the DICT.

These are the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office Permit Tracking System (champion, Business Empowerment G2B Provincial Level category); Provincial Civil Defense Referral System (second place); and Reverse Isolation and Contract Tracing Application (champion, Best in COVID-19 Pandemic Response award).

“Governor Defensor has always championed the digitization of government services because he believes in its power to improve efficiency, transparency and accessibility,” Banias said.

Banias said Governor Defensor also wants to develop an online platform for distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

The provincial government has also extended help to the LGUs in embracing digitization such as the provision of computer sets and other hardware support.

Data from the DICT showed that 36 out of the 43 local government units in the province have already adapted the eLGU system.

Banias requested for a meeting with the DICT on Thursday, February 27, to further discuss collaboration efforts for the province’s digital transformation journey. (Capitol News)
