The Iloilo provincial government, through the Provincial Veterinarian’s Office and Provincial Health Office, conducted a ceremonial kick-off of mass dog vaccination on February 1, 2023, at the municipality of Leon gymnasium.
Twelve heads of dogs were brought by their owners to participate in the activity.
It was led by Mayor Ma. Lina C. Holipas, Vice mayor Rey C. Capague, the Sangguniang Bayan Members, and Provincial Veterinarian Dr Darel Tabuada, representatives from the provincial government and Municipal Agriculture Office.
Mayor Holipas, in her speech said, “It is a matter of our political will as a leader, as kapitan, as kagawad, as chairperson sa Agriculture, nga ang rabies program dapat i-continue, i-sustain, tungod kung maintindihan ta lang, tama ka delikado ang rabies. That’s why nagapatigayon kita sang vaccination sa aton mga ayam.”
"Dogs are men's bestfriend pero pwedi makadula sang kabuhi kun indi kita responsible nga mga pet owners. Kun indi ka man lang makasarang mag atindir ka ayam, better nga indi ka nalang magsagod ka ayam," she added.
The provincial government procured P8 million worth of canine rabies vaccine to cater to 70 per cent of the total dog population in the province. It is double the fund allotted during the previous year.
The vaccination will end in April.
